Neustadt (Sachen)
The final leg is over with us arriving in Neustadt to meet Leon and Sylvia. If you take into account the departure time for Cape Town international airport it was just over 31 hours of travel. Yikes! I think we’re going to sleep well tonight.
The train ride here took us through a largish portion of the Czech Republic country side. It’s really beautiful, but contrasted with many abandoned or unkept buildings. Some portions made me think of Knysna with thick vegetation and towering trees. I’m looking forward to our return for a 2 day visit to Prague.
The Germany portion of the trip was equally beautiful. When we got to Neustadt Sylvia’s dad drove the luggage up to the flats and the men took a walk. Leon was on top form and met us with cold beers in hand. Unfortunately his beer purchasing skills far outweigh his navigation skills and we ended up receiving and impromptu tour of the town before finally getting to the flats :). It was actually quite a refreshing walk after being stuck in travel purgatory for more than a day.
Dinner was German salami on toast with some cheese. Tomorrow’s rough plan after popping in at the local baker and butcher is to take a hike up around the town outskirts.
I now have a local sim with data, so hopefully a few more pics and posts to follow.
